This old steam or roller mill is located on the seaside overlooking the Toppila Straights in Oulu,Finland.The site is also known as the historical centre of tar merchandise and exporting harbour – the tar court – it was called in the 19th century.

The Toppila straights – passage to the world

The story of the Toppila Straights started in 1724 , when the frozen Oulu river flooded and broke itself a new passage to the open sea thus forming a perfect natural harbour.

 

The mill was built in 1924 by The Vaasa Steam Mill Corporation. It was in in full function until the beginning of the 1990s. On the opposing side of the channel you now find the 2005  lodging exhibition site of Oulu.
